Haydn Dickenson was born in 1961 in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom where he still lives, dividing his time between his home there and a second one in the Languedoc, Southern France. He is familiar to audiences across the UK and Europe as a classical and contemporary Pianist of virtuosity and insight. Sales of his critically acclaimed album EAST, featuring eastern-inspired Music by Peter Feuchtwanger have brought him recognition still further afield, into the USA, the Far East and beyond. Less well-known is that Haydn is also a contemporary Artist producing work of great communicative power and impact. Since his recent installation as an exhibitor at the newly-opened Copper Beech Gallery in Hitchin, UK, Haydn has become that gallery's best-selling artist. He is represented exclusively by Art Agent Melanie Burnell. The major Russian Artist Dasha Balashova has written about Haydn's artwork: "The Art of Haydn Dickenson is like a true symphony, whose depth in all its diverse movements, inner 'nerve', expressive energy, live creative impulse, artistic passion and constant search take us beyond reality into spheres of the infinite. These are works that resonate with the heartbeat of life." Haydn's work ranges from rapid nude sketches in watercolour, recalling the work of Rodin, Klimt and others, through highly individual abstract nude work in oils and acrylics, to more overtly abstract pieces in which collage, acrylics and oils often collaborate in a suggestive dance of colour, texture and form; a dance at times urgent and vital, at others calm and meditative. Haydn's graphic style is influenced by years spent at the piano. The viewer may also notice in his abstract paintings distant echoes of the work of Shozo Shimamoto, Emile Schumacher and Joan Mitchell, together with de Kooning, Dubuffet and Arnulf Rainer, all artists much admired by Haydn. Haydn has frequently remarked that when he paints, he is painting music and, when playing the piano, he moulds sound like a painter. While he doesn't produce graphic works directly inspired by Music, the essential pliability of sound and its power to seduce the listener finds echoes in his work on canvas and paper. Believing that all artistic expression flows from the same well-spring of creativity, Haydn is his own man - he's not a follower, he's an innovator. His work is lyrical and at all times expressive whether in music or art, drawing on that force that lies in the touch of the human hand and expresssion of life. Haydn's work features in collections in the UK, France, the USA, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Afghanistan. In November 2008 Haydn staged a successful solo exhibition at the Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans, and he currently exhibits widely in Hertfordshire, notably the Copper Beech Gallery, Little Wymondley, Hitchin, and at Beaumont Hall Studios, Redbourn. In August 2009 he launched an acclaimed exhibition in Lodeve, Southern France. please contact haydndickenson65@googlemail.com
